Paul Shelley
September 1998
The following tribute was written by Martin Sarkar, a friend of Paul's. Paul's service was conducted at the Kennedy Rd. Baptist Church and was attended by over 200 people. A fitting farewell to Paul who more than lived up to the Scouting ideals in all aspects of his life. He will be sorely missed by his family, his community and the Scouting Movement.
What can I say?....
Oh what can I say? to my mentor, my friend, Who inspired and challenged, remained selfless till the end. A person of character and highest esteem, A role model to many, especially to me. A father, a husband, a son and a brother, A leader, a listener Unlike any other. A Scouter, pathfinder, Not one to "tow the line", A man who took pleasure in spending quality time with family, with friends to laugh or to cry, Who'd stop to pick flowers or watch a young bird fly. A critic, a joker; one who spoke his mind, But most of all, Paul was unfailingly kind. He loved. He cared. Those far and those near. And if you knew him well, his character's quite clear. Christ-like was Paul Shelley, His heart remained pure. And now he's in heaven, that much I am sure. Yet, I'll mourn for him now. Spend time shedding tears. I will cherish the memories from five happy years...
